RE: Cost of 8' Bed repair ?

Where in TX are you? I passed a yard north of Abilene an US83 that had stacks of PU beds just the other day. ..............I'm currently between Godley and Ft. Worth , tx . That is good to know ; that would be a 2.5 hour drive for me one way . I'm working 24\7 and can't take off for very long . Maybe you can remember the name of thew wrecking yard . My current assignment will be over in 4 weeks or so , but I could be here until the end of the year . Thanks , jf

RE: Cost of 8' Bed repair ?

get one from the "recycle" yard. why put a new box on an old truck? ............That seems to be the most logical solution . It'll take me a while to find one . , thanks for all the help guys . , jf

RE: Cost of 8' Bed repair ?

I would check out the places that do conversions to flat decks as they may have a replacement box or know where to find one. Sorry for your damage but thanks for reminding me to do the tug test everytime. ..............Yep , lol , I've already been there ! You can pull in there with a brand new truck ; he'll offer you ~$400 for that "OLD" bed , then when someone else pulls in looking for a regular pickup bed for their truck , It'll cost you $2,000 and UP . ..............A regular flatbed weighs about 700 pounds ; a regular truck bed weighs about 350 pounds . , jf

Cost of 8' Bed repair ?

............I dropped my 5'ver on my truck bed a while back so now I'm considering my options . One repair place's estimate was about $4400 . This is a 99 F250 PSD . I have no intention of getting rid of the truck so it's either fix the bed or move to a flatbed , which , I really don't care to do . ...........My main question is , is a truck bed repairable ? Doesn't have to be perfect , just average looking and repainted so I have a decent looking truck . I'm also going to visit a MAACO dealer and get an estimate from them so I have a question mark in the back of my mind about them . thanks , jf ..........PS , A new flatbed starts around 1700 , installed !

RE: Coleman powermate Endura 5500 watt

..............Increase your engine RPM until you are showing ~260 volts in a NO load condition . Your lowest voltage should never go below 110 or so . I'm assuming your test load wattage was close to 50% of the rated output for your genset . , jf

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

Question? When would you switch to 240 Volts on the the model C46540 3500/4000W? If you had your camper hooked up to the generator and then switched to 240v it would fry everything in it wouldn't it? ...........In my opinion, NO! A 240 plug has 4 connectors , 2 hots @ 120 each ,1 ground , and 1 neutral . A 30 amp connector has 3 , 1 hot @120 volts , neutral , and ground . .......... All trailers with 50 amp service , have (2) separate 25 amp circuits that should be somewhat balanced but separate with their respective loads . These circuits are Never wired together(share a common ground) so the (2) 120 volt hot wires combine to create a 240 volt circuit . , jf

RE: It's true about Teton...

............Seems like the owners of teton , setup another corporation to start building for oil field where profits are much higher , and kept Teton going as along as possible until the oilfield biz was in full swing . Then , just shutdown Teton , void all warranties , and let the New and used owners of tetons take a hike ....hurry for US , and Too hell with You'll !! .............I'll bet the New corporation is building the oilfield units in the very same facilities as the Tetons were built . , jf

RE: Suburban water heater ?

..........Thanks friends for the help . I found the model I needed for $393 , no state sales tax and no freight . Every other dealer I checked , online , had them priced at 495 or so . Actually , this unit is 11 years old , and rather than face a winter with potential breakdowns I'd just as soon start out with a new unit . Eleven years isn't too bad a service life really so I'll pull the old unit and maybe save it , after I've had a chance too inspect the whole unit . , jf

RE: High Gas + Tough Economy = Super RV Deals?

...........The truck camper dealerships have too respond to the same economic downturn as everyone else . They are NOT immune ; if they have their inventory floor panned\financed like most Dships , the intertest rates will eventually consume any profit that they hoped too realize by keeping their prices abnormally high . They will all receive their Come Uppance at some point in the business cycle . , jf

RE: Fiesta Key KOA Avoid

..............Work camping experiences are ONly as good as the owners\managers are willing too make them . I'm currently at a KOA and once the owner and I worked through our minor differences , my day to day life is a pleasant experience . People are complex entities and friction and game playing can become the norm if differences aren't reconciled from the getgo . .............Given the price of diesel I may stay here for a year or so until our economy sorts things out rather than leave after 6 months and then find I don't like my "new" job . Actually , after the owner has had a chance to see "how" I work he might improve my compensation , so we'll see how things evolve . , jf

RE: Airstream site breaking records ??

..............Airstream is a very nice trailer , but very overpriced in my estimation ! For the asking price they should be a full , four season trailer but aren't and probably never will be . jf

RE: NORTHWOOD STANDS ON THEIR UNITS BUT NOT BEHIND THEM!

They stood behind their product and we stood behind them seeing's how this was our 4th Palomino product and we now have our 5th Palomino with No problems. thanks for your reply. It shows mistakes do happen. However, how a manufacturer deals with them makes the difference. I am glad that everything worked out for you. Kudos to your manufacturer. Northwood has completely abandoned me. Realizing from your reply, there is no repair but a complete re-build of the unit with new pre-fabricated walls from the bottom up. Northwood knows that which could explain their silence but doesn't make it acceptable. I still don't know how to get them to acknowledge their mistake in writing as they have done by phone. How can I discuss a solution with them if they don't answer. ............I believe I'd just take the trailer back to NWood and park it on their front door until they decide to fix it ! It's not that far from Calgary down to their factory in Oregon . , jf
